200g Vinyl LP Reissue Cut from Masters by Jason Mitchell at LOUD Mastering and Approved by Andy Partridge!

In 2022, White Music returns to vinyl in a 200g super-heavyweight pressing from Vinyl Factory! XTC’s vibrant and playful 1978 debut album has been cut from masters by Jason Mitchell at LOUD mastering and approved by Andy Partridge. Includes the classic singles “Statue Of Liberty” and “This Is Pop,” plus the band’s remarkable take on Dylan’s “All Along The Watchtower.”

“I wanted it to sound like hearing Johnny & the Hurricanes’ ‘Red River Rock’ as heard on a fairground ride through a cranked up PA speaker or like Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band playing bubblegum music…” This is how Partridge describes the sound he was looking for on XTC’s January 1978 debut. The release date is worth noting. It signaled that this year’s models would approach music more expansively – abandoning the constrictions and the monochrome certainties of 1977’s scorched earth punk for a more colorful inquisitive alternative. Along with XTC, Virgin would, in 1978, issue debut albums from Magazine, Devo, Penetration and, significantly, as the year came to a close, Public Image Limited.
