The Pixies, one of the most important bands that spearheaded the early US alternative/grunge movement, released their second album in 1989, and it is considered a historically significant masterpiece and the greatest work of the Pixies.

The album opens with “Debaser,” followed by the exhilarating “Wave of Mutilation,” the anthem “Here Comes Your Man,” sung by the drunk protagonist in the movie “(500) Days of Summer” at a bar’s karaoke bar—a song that could arguably be called the band’s signature track, and “Monkey Gone to Heaven,” which invites listeners into a mythical abyss. All of these songs have become synonymous with the band.

Their originality, seamlessly blending catchy pop melodies with noisy, explosive roars, shattered the traditional structure of rock and presented a new dynamism. Furthermore, their lyrical world, interwoven with cult humor and religious and mythological imagery, forged a unique and unparalleled realm. There’s no doubt that their innovativeness decisively shaped the 90s alternative scene, including Nirvana. And even now, more than 35 years after its release, its brilliance remains undiminished, continuing to captivate listeners worldwide. This is truly a masterpiece of alternative rock.
